Writing for the Soul: An Art Journaling Workshop
Nelly has paired up with licensed and Board Certified Arts Therapist Mia de Bethune to create this workshop that draws on expressive writing and creative journaling to help people explore areas of personal growth—whether it’s something they’re going through and trying to process, or the desire for self-reflection and self-improvement.
Common themes for the workshops include renewal, rebirth, transformation, healing, and body image. However, Nelly and Mia can customize their workshops for particular groups, based on that group’s needs. They also hold open workshops in Mia’s Hastings-on-Hudson studio (which can accommodate up to nine people).
In the art journaling workshops, participants use writing prompts to get their thoughts flowing and into a journal. Then, using artistic prompts, they work to make visual representations of their ideas. It’s not about creating beauty or a defined work of art. It’s about representing your worries, dreams, goals, fears, hopes, and moments of joy, anguish, confusion or any other number of emotions in words and images. Participants can take themes in any direction, depending on where they are in their lives and where they want to go. It’s structured only in that Mia and Nelly help facilitate and get thoughts moving. But what participants create is up to them!
Stay tuned for a schedule of upcoming Writing for the Soul art journaling workshops at the Hastings-on-Hudson studio! You can also book a workshop in the studio for your group, or Nelly and Mia can come to your organization and do the art journaling workshop.
